Hi all
If I'm honest the new music scene depresses me! Over the past few years I've struggled to find new bands whose music moves me. Only The Alarm, Billy F, Big Country, Ryan Adams have managed thus far. However, given that I am only 32 years of age, I'm thinking that perhaps I've missed out on many amazing "not so famous" bands of the 80's. Can anybody out there recomend some cool stuff I might of missed out on? I'm ready to start a massive download, but I need some names of bands and artists?
Ed
Ps, Willow and Hugh, good call on the Waterboys, I'm getting it!

Deacon Blue, Lone Justice (Maria McKee), New Model Army, Echo & The Bunnymen, The Ramones, The Clash.
That's a varied selection from the 80's.

Pleased it's not just me who liked The Big Sound Authority.
Try also, The Jam, especially the "All Mod Cons" album, late 70's. The Vapors "New Clear Days" album from early 80's. Anything by Jeff Healey, especially if you like complex guitar work. The Ruts from late 70's. From a purely personal view...listen to a multitude of tracks from The Small Faces from the 60's and you'll hear where many of the so called "influential" bands of the 70's, 80's and 90's have taken a lot of their ideas from.

The Runaways? I always though Joan Jett was bi rather than trans though? Otherwise I have no idea at all! Any songs may help jog the rusty memory? xx

Perhaps not the coolest band but I would have to add Meatloaf to my list as the songs are so big and classic, rather like the man himself! ;D
I met him in 1986 as he was a guest at an event I helped organise - a big cuddly teddy bear, he made a real effort to speak to as many people as possible and everyone loved him.

Hugh, don't know much about Wayne/Jayne's music, but I think The Police toured with them in their early days and the original Police guitarist, Henry Padovani, later became one of The Electric Chairs.
